Are Imperial Diesel
Generators Designed for prime power, or are they just back-up generators? |
Imperial
Diesel Generators will meet any power need, but they are designed
to meet the strenuous demands of continuous use by farms and industry,
when sufficient power
is difficult to acquire. |
| . |
Why is a diesel generator
better than a gasoline generator? |
Because of the way diesel engines
are built they will last many times longer than a gasoline powered engine.
Diesels are far more efficient, as well. |
| .. |
How does the maintenance of a diesel
generator compare to that of a propane or gasoline generator? |
Propane or gasoline generators will need to
be overhauled in as little as 1,000 hours if they can be
overhauled. The Imperial requires little maintenance and will easily run
for ten to fifteen thousand hours before the first overhaul will be
recommended. |

What about diesel fuel
compared to gasoline? |
Diesel fuel is less expensive,
less explosive and can be stored for longer periods than gasoline. |
| . |
How long can diesel fuel
be stored? |
Generally for at least
12 months.
However, there are additives and devises that can stabilize diesel fuel for years. |
| . |
How large a fuel storage
tank will I need? |
That's determined by how you plan
to use the generator, your estimate of the availability of diesel fuel in your area and how often you'll
want to fill the tank. 300 to 500 gallon tanks are common. |
| . |
Where do I get diesel
storage tanks? |
To find a good stand alone tank locally, look in the Yellow Pages under
Oil Companies, Petroleum Products Suppliers or a similar heading. These companies usually know where to
buy tanks and they can supply your diesel fuel as well. Be
sure to ask about "untaxed" #2 diesel fuel. Imperial can
also build your generator with one of our rear mounted or belly
mounted tanks. |
| . |
Can my generator be set
up outside? |
Not recommended. It's better to
house the unit in an existing outbuilding or a special shed.
When it is not possible, Imperial can build your generator with a
strong, lockable enclosure. |
| .. |
Can my generator be hooked directly to my house? |
Yes, it can. A certified electrician will know how to
safely do this. |

If I want to set up a
complete "off grid" power generating system, what else do I need? |
An inverter (we recommend Outback or Xantrex), storage batteries and a good, local
electrician. Other accessories such as our 'Smart Start' can be added to customize your system. In
most cases we can order equipment for our customers at up to 14% off retail. |

What is an inverter? |
An inverter is an electronic
device that changes DC power (your batteries) to AC power (your house).
Your generator should be sized to power your peak loads as well as
charge your battery bank. |
| . |
What inverter do I need? |
We can assist you in determining which inverter will best meet
your needs. We will also assist with your installation
planning and walk you through the process. |

Can I get 220V as well as
110V? |
Yes. Unless some other voltage is requested, Imperials
come standard in single phase (120/240 volt). Three phase is
also available for very little difference in cost. |
